Universities, R&D Groups and Academic Networks

PhyCS is a unique forum for universities, research groups and research projects to present their research and scientific results, be it by presenting a paper, hosting a tutorial or instructional course or demonstrating its research products in demo sessions, by contributing towards panels and discussions in the event's field of interest or by presenting their project, be it by setting up an exhibition booth, by being profiled in the event's web presence or printed materials or by suggesting keynote speakers or specific thematic sessions.

Special conditions are also available for Research Projects which wish to hold meetings at INSTICC events.

Carnegie Mellon Portugal


The Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program has been created to expand research and education in the area of information and communication technologies with a close connection with the Portuguese industry. This Program was the result of long term collaboration between Carnegie Mellon University and Portuguese government and includes an emphasis on information processing and networking, applications to critical infrastructures and risk assessment, as well complementary areas of applied mathematics, technology, innovation and policy. As a result of this collaboration has been created an international “virtual” institution, with joint administration in Portugal and at Carnegie Mellon,named as Information and Communication Technologies Institute (ICTI).
ICTI and Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program involves professors, researchers and students from six colleges, eight departments, six research centers and institutes at Carnegie Mellon and a large consortia of Portuguese research and education institutions.

IT - Instituto de Telecomunicações


Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) is a Portuguese private, non-profit organization, of public interest, a partnership of six universities and two major companies with R&D in Telecommunications: Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal Telecom Inovação, S.A., Nokia Siemens Networks, Universidade da Beira Interior, Universidade do Porto and ISCTE–IUL. IT is an Associate Laboratory of the State.

IT mission is to create and disseminate scientific knowledge in Telecommunications. IT is involved in fundamental and applied research at national and international levels. It fosters higher education and training by hosting graduate and postgraduate students. IT also plays a role towards society with public awareness initiatives, knowledge transfer to industry and consulting services on non-competing basis.

IT research team includes about 200 PhD holders, 200 PhD students and 400 MSc students. Advanced laboratory facilities support applied research, which is carried in the framework of national and international projects in cooperation with peer institutions worldwide. Yearly, IT is involved in more than 170 projects with competitive funding and scientific output exceeds 40 books and book chapters, 250 papers in international scientific peer refereed journals, 450 papers in conferences and more than 10 filed patents.
